One of the earliest recipients of a Peyton Anderson scholarship was media executive Tom Johnson. He caught the attention of Mr. Anderson while working at the Macon Telegraph, a job that started with sweeping floors. Mr. Anderson opened the door to higher education, which eventually put Johnson on his own legendary career path, where he would go on to serve as president of CNN and publisher of the L.A. Times.
